alternator??

i was on the fwy and my mph gauge went from 85mph to 0 mph and the check engine and the battery lights came on?? then i was almost home and my rpm gauge went out and all the lights were going dem and my car started to hesitate, i got up my drive way and turn off the car and then tried to start it and it would even turn over? would it be the alternator? and what are the amp's on a stock alternator

yes it is the alternator... when the engine light and batt light go on it is the alternator.. plus you batt wasnt being charged.. thats why it dead. i had the same prob.. except not as bad... do you have pullies?
