Just changed my headgasket and have lots of extra parts?!?!

4 days total, took my time with it....

oem headgasket (38$)
brian crower stage 1 cam
arp headstuds
brian crower valve springs
brian crower titanium retainers
MaxBore ...bored stock tb

now u know where all the spare parts came from!

anyway.....

I used the old slip the cam out method becuase my impact wouldn't take my crank pulley off.

If you rush and have done it before...u can do it in 1 day
If you stay at it...2days
It took me an easy 4 days (I like breaks [union workers])

If you guys have any questions hit me up...Im not going to post up a diy, becuase I don't want people thinking they can read it and do it...it takes a certain amount of skill/knowlege to do it, really only you know if your ready to take on the task.

I own a Honda service manual...01-03 civic...I didn't even need it...

car runs great now, ive got some pics if anyone is interested

Re: Just changed my headgasket and have lots of extra parts?!?!

So you didn't need the manual, I take it you had the torque specs for the head bolts, cam gear, rocker arms and everything else memorized?

Using an impact to remove or replace a crank pulley is dangerous. What happens when you snap the end of the pulley bolt off? That's why there are special tools made to hold the pulley in place while you crank on the pulley bolt.

How could this job possibly take more than a day?

Re: Just changed my headgasket and have lots of extra parts?!?!

i have to agree with andy, i did the timing belt diy in 3 hours yesterday, with proper torque specs, but my impact has 1100 ft/lbs of torque in reverse.... did the arp's come with new torque specs?? they should have, and i bet the springs were a bitch without taking the head off. removing the crank pulley bolt is not dangerous with an impact, its usually safer beacuse its not a constant torque.... but, u must have the tool to retorque the bolt to the crank, it is 181 ft/lbs
