grinding down the bumper bar for body kit?

A guy at the body shop told me he installed an aftermarket fascia for a honda civic and had to grind down the bumper bar. He suggested i don't get a body kit installed due to safety reasons. I have never heard of that. Can someone with experience please tell me if this is complete crap or not? Im looking to have the kaminari full kit with the front fascia installed on March 3rd. Also I heard the fittament is excellent with this kit, is that also true?

Thanks Bryan

i had to remove the front crash bar when i had my old body kit...wouldn't even go on period with it there....i would advise against it if your car is a DD. i have since gone with the Kaminari lip kit on my OEM bumpers...no issues. besides, it looks 100 times better IMO...

Re: grinding down the bumper bar for body kit?

You might as well stop paying to insure your car if you remove that front crash bar- no way any company is going to pay for repairs to a car that the owner made a safty hazard. Plus its not like you can really "grind" it down... the meal isnt thick enough for it. They would probably shave off the ends or cut it up... which is the same as removing it. Your car is going to crumple upon impact and the force of the crash will not distribute as intended- just a collapse of the front. Kiss that engine compartment goodbye and say hello to your windshield washer fluid container being in the passenger seat kuz all that ***** headed for the cabin.

I had a repair done when some guy hit my car and that styrofoam piece wasnt there. Hell I never put it back. I wouldnt worry about it.

Re: grinding down the bumper bar for body kit?

Styrofoam isn't that important. The engine will absorb the impact now. If the hit was hard enough the engine is moving back anyway.
