First Post, First Time Civic Owner
I just picked up my civic yesterday. Its a 2004 LX with 46,000 miles. I live in upstate NY and paid a little over $14,000 for it. Not the best deal in the world but civics go for a good coin around here, I am happy with it so far. This is my second Honda if you count my TRX450R. I have always been a mopar owner my other vehicle is a Jeep grand Cherokee with 2" lift and 30" tires. Not great on gas mileage as you can imagine that is why I bought the Civic, I will be saving $100 a week in gas.
I have read through some of the FAQS, and did some searching. Is there anything you can suggest to me as a first time Civic owner. Anything that should be serviced, watched out for, or upgraded? I have a 60 day warranty so if something is going to g wrong hopefully it will happen in the next 60 days.
My first question is a dumb one but I think the deal ship over filled my oil by A LOT! I assume the oil is checked like any other car, level ground, motor off and cool, the bottom dot/hole is the oil low mark and the top dot/hole is the high mark. Well the oil lever extends almost an inch over the top dot/hole, do you think this will cause any problems.

Re: First Post, First Time Civic Owner
it only holds 3.5 quarts of oil, so yes, it probably is high, i dont know how much damage, id take it back and tell them to do it again, and get it right this time, and welcome to the site, its a great car and sexy too, use the search function, itll keep u from getting flamed here, again, welcome....
Re: First Post, First Time Civic Owner
take it back since you have the 60 day warrantee.. bring some kind of paper or print or something that lets them know how much oil to put in and show them that there is too much.. or just open up ur owners manual and point it out to them... that should be covered under the 60 day warranty.
do you have an automatic transmission? if so, they are notorious for going bad.. mine was destroyed around 60k miles..so make sure urs isnt slipping or feeling funny.
other than that just look out for anything out of the ordinary just like u would with any other car. welcome to the site.

Re: First Post, First Time Civic Owner
yeah I keep hearing about the transmissions problems. Do they go bad sooner or later or sometimes run forever? How much to replace them when they go? It feels solid no real issues as of yet. I noticed the dip stick for the trans just kind of sits there is doesn't really lock in or anything.
Im kind of pissed about the oil being over filled that can cause some real damage, I am going to ask for some extra time on the warranty.
