retainer and cam swap for d17?

hi i'm newbie here, in my country there are people who do swap retainer and cam from d16 to d17, since the head is not interchangeable, the cam and retainer is found to changeable, is it true? there are anyone tried it?
unfortunately they won't tell the detailed result to me....
I'm (again) some one who wants to stay naturally aspirated in my d17, but i not the engineer's type person.

Re: retainer and cam swap for d17?

im not sure if it will fit, but i know that if it were to fit, it wouldnt yeild any significant gains to justify the cost to buy it and put it in (since your not the engineers type person)... n/a is very difficult and requires some knowledge.. do your research first, and wait for the parts to arrive. the d17 isnt very popular and the n/a community isnt as great as we'd all like it to be.. its just very difficulty and costly. check out NA IDEAS in a couple threads below this one. you will learn something there, and then u can decide.

Re: retainer and cam swap for d17?

i think i'm sure they had done it, perfectly (maybe almost) fit they said. And like the intake/throttle swap, if the cam is interchangeable than our d17 can get acces to other d series aftermarket cam too, right? but what i'm doubt is are they any significant gain? and what about the horsepower curve band?
i will investigating more by questioning him.

Re: retainer and cam swap for d17?

probably cuz its not complete yet.. and there really hasnt been any MAJOR progress with developing a properly competetitive n/a motor. theyre making progress yes but not enough to make it a guide for anyone wanting to go N/A.

Re: retainer and cam swap for d17?

D16= D16

D17= D17

The cams are not interchangeable...

retainers and valve springs maybe

You can "make" the intake manifold fit by modifying the runners but that’s it...
