Typical RPM range

Ok next question, do Civics tend to rev high, or is it just mine? Sorry if this is a repeat post, I tried searching but couldn't find anything.

My civic revs at just over 3000RPM in 5th going only 60mph - is this normal? The engine is not really making a great deal of noise or anything, but this seems high. In my old car, 3000RPM would be approaching 80mph. I suppose it was a 2.3L vs 1.7L...

What is the typical RPM range for a Civic under -normal- acceleration? Of course everyone drives differently... I'm just not used to brining my car over 3K RPM unless I'm speeding.

Re: Typical RPM range

Well considering your red line is right around 7100 RPMs, 3K is child's play to our engine. However, how many miles are on your engine, and more specifically, your clutch? I guess it could be slipping, but I don't remember my RPM to MPH ranges. I'll check tomorrow on the way to work and see where I'm at with 60mph in 5th. That 3K sounds about right though.

Re: Typical RPM range

The car has 78000 miles, but I just got it so I have no idea how many miles are on the clutch itself. AFAIK, clutches should last to more than 100k, so it should be the first. I have not noticed the clutch slipping, but I'll keep an eye out. I guess I'm just paranoid and that RPM is normal for this car.

Re: Typical RPM range

All the 7th Gen EX 5 speed Civics I have driven always revved high even at 60mph - 2900 rpms or so. Where my 01 5 speed LX is "only" at 2500 rpm at 60 mph. I now have a second Civic , an 04 EX auto sedan and at 3000 rpm it is a little over 70 mph if I recall correctly , only had 9 days so far.
