kamikaze header
Re: ebay header
I just bought and installed an Ebay header, it wasn't that bad for the price, I just needed something cheap because the original header was cracked.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3213030&rd=1,1
The removal and installation went ok, except for the donut gasket which was a different size (OEM was 1 25/32 in, and aftermarket was 2 in), and the oxygen sensor.
The precat oxygen sensor wire wasn't long enough because the location is different. I had to take the pig tails off the bracket and I tied the wires back with some wire straps, but I still think the wire is to close to the header.
Does anybody know if there are some extensions wires with pigtails I can purchase, or am I going to have to take the wiring harness apart and solder in some wire to get enough clearance.
Thanks

Re: ebay header
just got it done, it was a bitch(partly cuz i couldnt wait for it to cool down as much as i should.... but i got er done, and no cel, 2 02 sensor holes, and washers and nuts are needed to bolt the dp to the bottom of the header.... had to run to oriely's in the middle of the install cuz i didnt know this. also, header gasket is needed too, but it flows so much better, havent driven it yet cuz im blocked in by my u-haul truck and 3 other cars, but ill be takin it to work tomorrow and ill give another update after work. sounds great btw

Re: ebay header
So you got an lx/dx header that takes out the cat, right?
with that said, did you get an O2 Simulator? Or did you just start it up and say, "Hey! No CEL! Sweet!" lol.. If that's the case, then it'll prolly come on after a while of driving. My turbo is throwing a CEL right now (P0172 - Running too rich) and when I clear it (when the CEL bugs me) it tends to come on after 150 miles of driving..

Re: ebay header
we will find out, but it has 2 o2 plugs, yes its lx/dx, hopefully it doesnt come on, ill keep everyone posted, but it shouldnt considering the 02s are pre and post cat, so if they are the same output then no problem hopefully

Re: ebay header
Cliff's Notes: You may throw a CEL in the next 100 miles or so because you don't have a cat to do it's job

Re: ebay header
+1 for u for good info, thanks for the heads up, i already spent like 350 between new bolts, gaskets and header, so hopefully i dont hve to spend more
Re: ebay header
I personally have a random tech high flow cat and before I went turbo, I had no A/FR related CELs..
cuz i was thinking of a megan header and random tech cat and weld that to my magnaflow cat back exaust
i was also wondering that maybe that would be less loud compared to just a straight through kamikaze...anybody kno if thats true?

Re: ebay header
ill tell u the kamikaze is really loud, i have no resonator either, so its def not quiet, as far as i can tell, it sounds about like a friggin drag car

Re: ebay header
I'll tell you this much, when I FIRST installed the downpipe I somehow managed to mis-align the downpipe and header by about a half inch and god damn that was loud.. lol.. not to mention the car ran like crap. I realized what I did and fixed it. It was a bit louder, but not too much.
here's what the mechanical O2 simulator looks like. Alls it is is 2 Spark Plug non-foulers (one as is, one bored out to accommodate the O2 sensor) essentially stacked and then inserted into the O2 sensor bung that exists on the header.
Linky for O2 Simulator
Mind you, this is just in case your CEL decides to pop in and say hello.. Which it might.. There are electrical O2 simulators out there, but back when I was researching that they ran about $60 or something ridiculous like that, which is why I decided to stick with the cat. Also, I'm trying to find a way to make my car emissions legal in NV.. Good luck!

Re: ebay header
hey, no problem man.. I was at that one point in my modding so I'm glad to help out. Plus I have nothing better to do than to troll around 7thgen and look at random threads
Re: ebay header
well do u guys think it would be like ricy..."i can hear it a street away" loud?
if i did a kamikaze straight to my magnaflow cat back?
or u think doing a meagan ex header and magnaflow cat/random tech. would be quieter?
btw...could i get a meagan and then get a universal magnaflow cat and direct bolt it to my magnaflow exhaust? or would i still have to get it welded to the exhaust like a random tech cat..

Re: ebay header
now im kind of confused. there is a kamikaze header for the ex right?
and Matteo i think ull have to get some parts welded. if u take out ur cat, its gona sound horrible. i had a friend do that recently. i duno..soudns really bad to me. very ricey.
u said "btw...could i get a meagan and then a universal magnfalow cat and direct bolt it to my magnaflow exhaust", i dont think i udnerstood that. megan header...to magnaflow cat...to the rest of ur exhaust. yea u can do that but since the magnaflow cat is univeral, u will have to get it welded.

Re: ebay header
well, i just got home from work, and it sounds horribly ricey, but i found out that its from when i had my resonator removed, the exhaust shop put in a straight pipe in its place, and didnt weld all the way around the pipe, they just welded the bottom, so i have a really bad exhaust leak, but i didnt find out till today since the kamikaze moves so much more air. secondly, as was already previously stated, i already have a cel, which came on after like 50 miles, if that. looks like im gonna hve to do something to resolve it.... anyway, on to the postives, minus the ricey exhaust leak sound, it increases flow really well, and the mid to high end power output is pretty good, not huge but noticeable by my *** dyno.... overall rating an 8.5 because of the small problems ive run into
Re: kamikaze header
god those things are ugly lmao. yea man u removed ur resonator and put a str8 pipe of course its gona get loud.. plus no cat.. if im getting this right. throw in a universal resonator from magnaflow..theyre nice. and...i duno wat else lol..

Re: kamikaze header
Your exhaust sounds ricey because of the exhaust leak. If they fix that exhaust leak it'll help alleviate the raspy fart-can-ness.. lol.. also, putting a resonator in line wouldn't hurt either.
As for the CEL, look into the mechanical O2 simulator/fix or spend the extra money and get a random tech high flow cat. It's about $250, but it's a functional catalytic converter and will not throw a CEL. You might be able to get away with changing to an ex exhaust setup, you'd also have to extend the wires on your O2 sensors for that to work though. I don't know what else that swap would entail though..
