Flood Victim EM2 !!! HELP !!!
Damn, I just posted another topic about noise reduction went out for a drive and noticed a weird kinda odor in the car
All of a sudden everything from yesterday afternoon came in mind as a FLASH BACK !
We had this sudden Flooding yesterday in SOuth Florida and I was on my way home when my civic along with a thousand more cars got stuck in this sudden flooding
The rain was so heavy that with in half an hour there was like a feet of water standing on intersections (more than a feet in some areas) ... I noticed that some of the drivers cars werent working and they were stuck in the middle of nowhere . Scared, I kept reving my engine and tried to get to a dry spot as soon as i could but traffic was crazy and it took me about 45 minutes to get out of the mess. I stopped at a gas station and just went numb !!!
There was WATER IN MY CAR !!! ... FOG LIGHTS HALF FILLED with WATER !!! and my HORN and CAR ALARM SIREN doesnt work no more !!!
Now Im not considered about the fog lights and the horn, coz there an easy fix... But that odor in my car is awefull man !
So i just took apart the passenger side panel and lifted the carpet and was DISGUSTED to find a puddle of DIRTY WATER/ OIL mixture on the whole floor. It took me 15 minutes to suck the water out with a vaccum cleaner but the carpet is still wet and its not drying that easily ... THE WEATHER SUCKS !!! coz its raining again
I HAVE NO CLUE WAT TO DO ... WHERE TO START !!!
A friend of mine told me to take the carpet out and let it dry for a couple of days ... But i have no clue how to take the seats out which i have to in order to take the carpet out
DOes anyone know of any cleaning services offered by people who can simplye REPLACE my carpet ??? OR Disinfect it or something !!!
HELP ME PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!

There was a thread on IP, about a company selling full carpets for like $150 each. Looked pretty legit. I'll see if i can get you the link. As far as actually replacing it, you have to take out most of the interior, which will be time consuming, but hopefully not too difficult. The seats should just unbolt. You'll prolly have to take the whole carpet out to dry it out, so for $150, I'd just replace it.

Re: Flood Victim EM2 !!! HELP !!!
I've taken my carpet a couple times and just washed the entire thing and then let it dry. Its a pain bacause the fronts seats have to come out (disconnect battery 1st if you have side airbags) and then most of the interior trim, center console, and your foot rest have to come out as well.

Damn bro, all I can say is that sucks ***. I live in N. Texas and it's been flooding everywhere around here as we got over 20 inches of rain in some places in the past month.. and most of that was in the last week it seems.. I've ended up with water over my hood a couple of times but have been lucky thus far.
Hope everything gets worked out for you mang, sorry that this **** happened.

hey man,
My dad own a cleaning service, and I worked for him for like 8 years, and done car interiors for like 4 or 5.
I live in newfoundland and we get the salt and all the crap that just makes your car reik(smell funky).
I can't offer you the service, but I can give advice. Go to a dollar store and get a cheap spray bottle. Go to some kind of industrial cleaning supply store and get a carpet shampoo(try to get bubble gum flavor or something). household should be fine. Mix it as in the spray bottle as it says in the instruction. Probably gonna be like 1 part shampoo 3 parts WARM water. You can go a little heavier. Try it on a not so noticeable spot first to make sure its not too strong for the carpet. Spray it on(make sure the carpet gets soaking wet) and scrub with with a scrubbing brush. Vacuum it up (wet vac), and see what it smells like. If you have a garage to put the car in over night than do so, with the windows down so it won't dry out funky. Either that or do it early in the morning on a nice day and leave the windows open all day.

Re: Flood Victim EM2 !!! HELP !!!
Thanks a lot to each and everyone of u who took the time out and tried to help me. I really appreciate the efforts. Well first of all, I will try to go with Medic 06's advice and see if i am able to do it myself. The problem is that I dont have access to a garage and second thing, its rainy season here in florida which sucks. One minute it might seem to be a picture perfect sunny day, and the next minute out of nowhere come these weird thunderstorms man
. But I aint loosing hope that easy. Imma definitely try it out.
if not then I will go with Ambulance Monkey's website link. Thanks bro. $150 isnt a bad price for a PRE-CUT carpet for the car. But Im definitely gonna have trouble taking the interior apart and those seats
.. I was planning a DYNAMAT session anyway sooner (reason i posted the other topic) So i guess I will do both things together.
Wish me good luck guys and btw ... my car still stinks like a fish market

Make sure to let it dry so it doesn't mildew (which will stink even worse than it already does). Other than that, try an automotive detail place and see what they'll charge you to clean it (if you can't get them smell out yourself). The only thing is that it could get in the carpet padding thing under the carpet and the smell be out of the carpet, but not the padding. It may be worth replacing it if that's the case.
Another place you might want to try, though you'll have to cut the carpet, is Select Products www.selectproducts.com they carry automotive carpets. I know they have the grey 11 color that matches the charcoal colored carpet. You'd have to cut it, and pad it yourself (if you wanted padding). If you plan on dynamatting though, you won't have to add the pad unless you really want to, and you could use a spray adhesive and adhere it to the mat deadener.
You guys and your rain stories... I just wish we had rain here. It's only rained 3 times all since early march.

Re: Flood Victim EM2 !!! HELP !!!
When I bought my car used, the person who owned it before me spilled some food or drink or something down the center console and onto the carpet. So obviously the seats had to come out and that crap had to be cleaned up. My seats had this wire that hooked up under the seats. Its the wire that monitors when you have your seat belt on and all the other safety things along with. Make sure you dissconnect the battery before unplugging these because it will trip a SRS light in the cluster like it did on mine. If this happens, you gotta go to the stealership to get it reset. Chemical wise, I've used a chemical call Greased Lightening before, its something like 409, a mild degreaser. I took the carpet out of my '86 Mazda B2000 and wet it and sprayed that Greased Lightening on it and scrubbed and scurbbed and scrubbed and then took a pressure washer and lifted stains and the funk that got in the carpet for 20 years. When I finished I let it dry on the clothes line for like 3-4 days and now it looks like new carpet. Just a suggestion.
Re: Flood Victim EM2 !!! HELP !!!
Thanks man ^^^ Imma definitely keep that thing in mind
about disconnecting the battery and stuff ...
Now the funniest part yet to come... The odor is almost gone by itself
I would say only 5% of it is left ... so lets see now
