Custom Exhaust, NEED HELP
Custom Exhaust, NEED HELP
Okay, I am a just starting here at the forum. I have had my 01 civic lx coupe for a few months now, and I want to start modding it for the summer. I would really like to do a custom dual exhaust, and I need to know; do I need two cat. converters? I know that the whole idea is to have the least resistance, so I am thinking two, but I don't if I should just get one build into the down pipe. I am coming off the downpipe with a Y, and then splitting to two smaller tubes, any suggestions?

How would an inline 4 engine benefit from a dual exhaust? Even if you did it there is only one header at the front of the engine.....you want to split it off at the end of the header? I am assuming you are getting or have a aftermarket header as doing this after the stock manifold would be even more pointless in my book. Just my half a cent worth.

lol .. DUDE ...there are people running 18psi of boost and pushing 340hp to the wheels ... They didnt need a dual exhaust ... Y wud you
uh ... tell me a lil something about these MODS under the hood u plan to do

^^ agreed..there really isnt a single mod u can do that will NEED dual exhaust.. u dont need two cats unless u have two headers...im pretty sure of that. lol explain please

well, depending on what kind of header you plan on running... if you have an EX type header, or even a turbo manifold, you can run a stright pipe down, and then spit off from there and use two cat converters and then use two mufflers. Or you can use the EX or Random Tech downpipe from dezod which has ONE cat it in, and then spit off from there and do your dual pipes to two differnet mufflers. Or you could run no cat and no muffler, and just pull a pipe from the header off to the side behind the front wheel- enviroment issues with that. Theres a lot of ways you could do it, but honestly mufflers are kind of heavy so whats the point.
Re: Custom Exhaust, NEED HELP
For those of you that actually answered the question, thank you. For those of you that flamed me, thank you. I was just checking out a ricer post, and saw a civic with a dual exhaust, it sucked. I will only be doing a single exhaust now, but I don't want a faurt can, cops in my area hear one of those, and hunt down the car, and follow them until they can be pulled over. Anyone have any suggestions on a good exhaust systed, I don't mind if I have to build my own pipes, but any suggestions on a good cat. and muffler?

I am not seeing much flaming...you deffinatley are new if you consider this flaming lol. As far as the noise goes, most people that sell exhausts/mufflers sell silencers too. I am interested in going with flowmaster but I am not sure at all yet. I don't like those huge cans myself and I don't want my car sounding like a weed wacker either. If you search around some manufacturers will even have sound clips.
Re: Custom Exhaust, NEED HELP
Thanks, I will look around. I am just looking for something that will give me performance, with attracting too much attention. Anyone else have any suggestions?
Re: Custom Exhaust, NEED HELP
flowmasters? i dont think they make systems for the d17..i guess u could use there piping and a universla muffler from them but then again...why? ...magnaflow has a nice sound but a 4" tip. the apexi ws2 is very low-pro and sounds awesome. other than that u can always take off an 06 si muffler or an rsx muffler and get custom piping...u wont hear much from them nor will u get that huge of a performance gain. our engines do not react well liek ive said be4 with bolt ons...ive herd of 9 whp with a catback and intake...and thats considered alot. um.. u want a nice sound look into magnaflow, thermal, apexi and hks has a deep super aggressive sound (might attract the popo)...
