hx ecu vs ex ecu

Hi i swapped out my lx engine for a complete ex engine. The problem is i purchased a ecu from ebay and it was supposed to be for a 01-03 ex 5spd,well i called honda today and its from a hx 5spd 01-03.So i need to know if there are any other differences in the two besides when vtec kicks on.The guy from honda says no but he is just a parts guy please help soon thanks sam

Re: hx ecu vs ex ecu

Not sure but the HX might use a wideband primary 02 sensor and and 01-03 EX uses a narrowband 02 sensor. So it might not run properly. But ill confirm that for you.

Re: hx ecu vs ex ecu

If you have an lx with vtec head swap yes emanage can control it with the right wiring. If you have EX ecu it gets kind of screwy and emanage is not really good at controlling it but honestly you're better off letting the ecu control it. I have not known anyone to use both VAFC and Emanage so I'd just choose one or the other. I have not heard of any issues with VAFC controlling VTEC though.

Re: hx ecu vs ex ecu

Well see i swapped whole engines not just heads,I already purchased the emanage on here, because i am running a t25 turbo.I just dont know if i should sell this ecu and get a ex ecu or not?I have the ex wiring harness so the vtec is already wired.

Re: hx ecu vs ex ecu

Well I dont wanna tell you the wrong thing so I'll let other ppl with more mechanical knowledge to chime in but I'd say keep your eye out for EX ecu if its being sold pretty cheap just in case. I can't imagine why you won't be able to use the HX ecu but you're tune will be very different compared to the EX ecu. You probably will just need to swap out that primary O2 sensor.

Re: hx ecu vs ex ecu

I just realized what year is your engine. Straight from hondata 04-05 EX and 01-03 HX have the same compatible wideband 02 sensor. So you might be fine afterall. However if you have an 01-03 EX that uses the narrowband primary 02 sensor.

Re: hx ecu vs ex ecu

wtf.. PM Sujak asap. He was selling an EX ecu for like 200 bucks probably 100 bucks actually but not sure if its sold yet. He's at work now and gets off at 10. I'll ask him when he gets online. Otherwise keep looking man. If I had money for hondata I'd sell you mine right away lol, but im not there yet.

Re: hx ecu vs ex ecu

Keep the wideband, ditch the emanage and buy a Kpro.... works with the stock wideband and has far more control over the thing than an emangle could dream of.
