dent in rocker panel, options?
dent in rocker panel, options?
my driver side door has a bad dent in the rocker panel (i believe this is the right term, it is the strip of trim right below the door)
unfortunately this piece is welded into the rest of the entire side frame. so it cant be tapped out or anythng ez
i have 3 options so far
1. replace that piece of the frame - apparently it can be cut out and a new piece rewelded in. best but most expensive
2. fill in the dent and then paint over it. i dont know much about this option yet
3. buy some kind of side body kit that covers over the rocker. i have an 05 ex se sedan. i see that the coupe has factory kits like the aero wing, but no such thing for the sedan. can someone point me to some possiblities for this? thanks

Anything you do is likely going to need a body shop. if its not major, then it probably can be pulled out, smoothed and repainted, if it got up into the door frame, then it probably needs some serious work. The rocker is so rigid and thick I dont think you'll get away with paintless dent removal.

Re: dent in rocker panel, options?
Quick fix, get the body kit/side skirt....
More permanent fix, (which you can do at home...) sand down to bare metal, fill will Evercoast z-grip, block sand till flat then use primer and factory paint from paintscratch.com or something. If it's a large dent then you might want to look into getting one of those dent puller thangs.... then do the rest with filler.
Did you take it in a get an estimate? Maybe it won't be too expensive.
P.s. if you post a picture I might be able to get a better idea what you're working on.

Re: dent in rocker panel, options?
ok the right way to do this is gonna be
1. grind down to bare metal all the way across the dent
2.take a spot welder spot weld a **** ton of lil spikes itll look like a porcupine
3. take a slide hammer attach to your porcupine spikes start pulling
4. use a body hammer and hammer around the spikes as you pull b/c this will stretch out the metal.
5. keep pulling lol
6.take a whizz wheel and grind down your welds
7. once your panel is straight your going to wanna use some filler
8. sand fill sand fill repeat (thats the fun part of body work right guys? lol)
9.once panel is flush tape her off and lay some primer and a guide coat.
(a guide coat will show you your low/ high spots on the panel)
10. lay some fresh paint on that sucker/ clear it
its going to be pretty complicated so unless you have experience in autobody id take it to a shop.
edit!
upon further inspection of your pics i think your going to need a frame rack for that one. the frame isnt bent but they will clamp the car down and use the pullers to pull it out, then use the method posted above. deffiantly going to need to take it to a shop. unless you have a frame rack in your garage cause if you do can i come over? lol i can pick up a wrecked 7thgen for cheap right now lol
oh and when i say pull it out they will weld peices of sheet metal to the dent and pull it that way by clamping onto the sheet metal then grinding down the welds.
