Question rough 1-2-1 shifts. 2008 1.8 AT

Hi all,

Im new here and im new to Honda. i recently purchased a 2008 civic (1.8 AT) with 60,000 miles on it from a family friend . Clean car and runs pretty good so far but im noticing some weird transmission behavior only in certain conditions. mostly just the 1-2-1 especially when its cold but even at full operating temperature I get some hard shifts from 1st to 2nd under relatively light accelerations. I also notice that sometimes when not coming to a full stop the downshift to 1st is delayed and if you hit the gas beforehand it gives u a pretty hard down shift. This don't happen consistently with every shift but it does happen under certain conditions it seems and enough to be noticeable.

I just bought the car and Im worried so my question is what should i do? i see a lot of mixed responses about whether or not to do a drain and fill or a full flush? maybe a solenoid replacement? but there is no check engine lights or service lights on.

On another topic im aware of the motor mount issues on these cars and im 90% sure the car needs a motor mount cause of the vibration at idle. There is a quick very brief but weird noise/rattle when i hit the gas from a stop as if something is moving or rattling when the engine/trans moves from acceleration. any chance that's related to the mount?

i appreciate any input, and i thank you in advance.

drain and fill, don't do flushes, use the correct honda fluid

Only 60k on it? I would not expect any trans issues other than TCC shudder if the fluid has not been serviced (we KNOW they do this, at my dealer we still recommend ATF service every 30,000 miles) Maybe this is what you noticed as a rough shift? Often it is felt just after the trans makes a shift into 2nd or 3rd (because TCC on these can be applied in all 5 gears)
Try driving it with the shift lever in D3, see if that makes a difference in those low speed gear changes.

Occasionally I see fault codes for pressure switches that intermittently don't work.

I also notice that sometimes when not coming to a full stop the downshift to 1st is delayed and if you hit the gas beforehand it gives u a pretty hard down shift.
Probably normal.
It may stay in 2nd if you don't drop under a certain speed (maaaaybe 5 mph?) like creeping up to a red light that turns green before you come to a complete halt, but it will downshift to 1st if you mash the gas pedal, and it will be a 'firm' shift if you do.

ATF service is drain and fill ONLY !!!1! (If you DIY, this is even simpler than an engine oil and filter change)
Never ever use chemicals or a machine!
DO use Hondas DW-1 trans fluid. Each drain and fill will take somewhere between 2.5 - 3 quarts.

The engine mount (pulley end of engine) can collapse, and it can make a horrendous vibration in the cabin that kinda sounds like the muffler fell off.
Usually shuts right up when you change directions (forward or backward) as the engine weight shifts.
Use OEM mount! Aftermarkets seem to be crap, either very short life or too much vibration.
See the post in this link for some great clear pictures of the bad vs new engine mounts: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...ml#post4577741

Make sure all of the recalls have been completed too
