Hi I am new here to the site/forum . I have noticed there is no button for the map light in the LX models of the civic to make it so that the map lights come on when one of the car doors is opened. Is it possible to add a switch to control to lights without having to link the map lights to the dome light?

Creative. Wiring.
The LX is not prewired for what you want to do (at least my '12 sedan is not), so you have to do your own wiring.

IIRC, someone here installed extra LEDs into the front map lights and wired them to come on with the other dome light (with the doors).

Does anyone here have a 2013 civic lx that has bothered to look into their map light area? I only ask because I had no idea how the wiring is in the 2013 and it might be different from a 2012 model.

My schematic shows there is only a single wire at that map light set.
It is not prewired for what you want to do.

I saw on some other civic forum I think it was the 8th gen and the 9th gen civic that people split the wire from the dome light and connect them to the map light is it possible to add a switch, a custom one to control the function for map light?

Where can I find the schematic for 2013 honda civic not that I don't trust you but I wanna have a copy of the schematic for myself.

That's why I said 'creative wiring'.
If I understand you, You would have to modify the original light assembly (if you use it), since it is only using a B+ input and a manually activated switch for each light.


Honda quit printing paper manuals. (Apparently those were far too reliable.)
The wiring diagrams are online now, that's it.

I'm old school, I am NOT a fan of online wiring diagrams at all.


You can purchase a subscription to Honda Service Express if you wish to get dealer level information yourself. I think there is some info about it on the Honda USA consumer website in the owners area.

OP, look in your current map lenses and see if you have an open square area like my 2010 does. I used 1 each side of the warm white stick-on LEDs from superbright and mounted them in that area. They are great !

No schematic required to tap into dome wiring just measure voltage or connect leds to test correct polarity. And do it right (no blue scotchblocks!!)
