Hello all, just a quick question.
Earlier this year I got my first set of rims for my car, before that I had stock wheels with hubcaps etc.
The new rims are 18" and have low profile tires on them, is there anything I should know about winter driving with them?
Where I live we rarely get accumulating snow, maybe once or twice a year(and only 2 or 3 inches if that)
But rarely we can get 6 inches or more, so I'd like to be prepared. I always hear people talking about low profile tires and snow being a bad mix, how much snow would be too much to drive on with my wheels?

buy a set you could care less about and put winter tires on them.

can't see what tires you have. if they were rated summer tires, they are for that, don't play with them in snow.
if you still have your old set, with all season tires, you just slap them in there and hope they will not slide. or stay home. it's not just you on the roads, so a lot of swerving outta other drivers could might happen. you don't wanna be there with summer tires.

The profile of the tire does not effect wheather it is good in the snow or not. If they are all season then you are ok. Would be better off getting winter tires though.

Usually lower profile tires are more for summer performance which are bad in the snow.

technically a low aspect ratio tire would flex less, making it even more prone to slide.
in real life? if one needs to ask this, he would not be able to actually tell the difference.

as is that people link the low aspect ratio to low performance in colder months instead of thinking that low aspect ratio tires are mostly summer tires... wrong assumption... wrong theory... wrong brains... bwahaha! that's how a internet truth is born Mithbusters, come here! we have 'nother one!

Alrighty, thanks everyone for the input!
The tires I have are Kumhos, but I couldn't tell you the exact model unless I went outside.
But I figure we probably wont get any snow, or anything more than a few inches, this year as usual so I should be fine.

If you live in a high salt area I highly recommend buying snow tires with steelies. Your rims will corrode like crazy and basically look like crap in 3 years unless you wash them daily. The driving you do in the winter offsets the mileage on the low pros so they last longer. Salt = aluminum oxidization quicktime.
