I have a 2010 Honda Civic VP. I just got power locks installed with keyless entry. The power locks lock and unlock fine with the remote, but when I try to manually lock or unlock the doors (using either a key or from the inside of the car) it is very difficult. By difficult, I mean it takes a lot of force to manually lock and unlock the doors. Any idea how this can be fixed?

I have the same issue, assumed it was normal...I always use the remote anyways though so it doesn't really affect me.

you need a replacement latch assembly. also be aware the driver side cannot be push locked with the door open.

You got what you paid for.
Probably nothing you can do about it easily.
Return to your 'installer', let them tell you, "That's just how it is."

You now have to physically move a power lock actuator that has been attached to the linkage inside the door. That takes effort.
It isn't like a factory P/L setup at all.

I've been trying to find an answer online and from what I've read isn't the actuator supposed to move freely with little if any resistance? I've read one or two things that suggests that if the actuators aren't mounted properly inside the door then they can experience binding which makes them harder to move. Do you think that could be it?

Far too many variable to find an accurate answer for YOUR problem online.
If this was an issue with factory parts, you might. But you have aftermarket stuff now.

Again, far too many variables for me to give a solid answer, except for that aftermarket (non-factory) is your problem. Return to your "installer" in the morning.

Everything original in the door works on cables, no solid linkages. There is an issue with leverage acting upon the actuator now, and someone having to cobble up some sort of mechanism for an add-on actuator to attach either to the cables or the lock button itself, and still have the original parts work too.

This has been changed starting with the 8th gens. You can now simply hit the lock button and close the door.

yikes, never thought they would make it easier to lock yourself out. another reason i like having manual locks better. you always know what is open or locked. oh well yeah if its a full aftermarket kit you are screwed. i never can figure out why people do that when the oem part is only maybe $40 for the whole latch and actuator. just bolt it in and wire it up.

They used that inhibit locking system for a long long time, It still won't lock when key in ignition...but other than that make sure you have key in hand or spare in your pocket. I have a bad habit of locking my remote key in the trunk at times, and I keep the remote trunk release locked most all the time.

I used to do this until my car was broken into and they just forced the rear seats down. If they want to get in your trunk they will, even if it means breaking things.

yeah not worth the extra damage they will cause just to look in an empty trunk for me, so i leave it connected inside. the only reason i lock my doors is to prevent thieves from stealing the whole car. there is nothing of value inside. hopefully they at least look inside before trying to break the door open. its amazing how stupid these guys can be with how easy it is to get in a car without leaving damage. $2 of parts from walmart and 20 secs of time is all thats needed. but instead they take way longer with a crowbar and ruin everything.
