Miss the Overdrive Button

So my 2010 Coupe doesn't have an overdrive button like my old Toyota.

I really miss this. The OD button would keep the auto tran from shifting down for another 500 RPM or so and it gave me some extra ooomph when I needed it for "spirited driving." and turn OD off when am on "cruising mode." This worked well.

Am afraid to shift down to D3 at highway speeds. Anybody have technical data when does a 4-speed auto shifts?

Re: Miss the Overdrive Button

i have to keep mine in d3 pretty much all the time in the city to be able to barely keep up with traffic. on the highway tho i use d, otherwise gas mileage would suck and rpm is already very high. i thought newer 06+ civics had a 5 speed auto? the one i drove did, but i cant remember if there was a d4 mode.

don't have the data, but do you mean shift up instead?
When you stomp the gas pedal all the way in and some conditions are met, i guess the car shifts down, even in the highway (like up hill, however then it will not shift back to the 4th gear - that was in my old gone 01 LX auto).

Re: Miss the Overdrive Button

Yes, I meant to delay it from shifting up prematurely, thereby losing power when I need it. Stumping on the gas and letting the auto trans to react is too slow, one really needs the power b4r then. With my old Toyota, when coming into a tricky situation, I would turn off OD, that kept the rpm up and keep up the torque and I was able to react quicker. I will play with the D3 and see how I can compensate.

Really wish Honda had a auto-manual (sequential manual?) mode. I don't have quarrel with manual, I just have problem with foot-clutch! I know some ppl love it, but I don't. Recently I saw an article where it says the old clutch-manual system is too slow, reason why the high-end sports/racing cars now have paddle shifters and so forth. Just fine with me, now can we get something like that on a Civic?
