Hey everyone, totally new to civicforums, i love what people have posted on this site and i hope soon i will be able to get a honda. I live in Canada and im going to buy a new car in the U.S. and i have been looking at either the Honda Civic Si coupe or the Honda Accord Coupe base model (LX-S). Im 18 looking for my first car which i will be driving for fun (obviously), to work, and to university. I have looked into seriously both cars but i can't really make up my mind so if people could either point me in a general direction, point out pros/cons, or let me know about aspects of each car that i may have overlooked that would be great. If your looking for fun the SI coupe will kill the 4 banger accord. Now if you where to step up to the V6 one thats a different story. When I drove an 08 Accord V6 Sedan I was amazed. The power delivery was super smooth and it pulled like no tomorrow.

either way id look into insurance, an 18 year old with a "sports" car is going to pay out the wazoo for insurance, id make sure u can afford it before u buy either

Engine size isn't the only factor. Whether it's the 4 or 6 cylinder Accord, it's a great car. Very smooth, very quiet, nice ride. But it won't out handle an Si. Period. V6 or V4 Accord, the Si is more fun cause it rides like it's on rails. Figure out what you want in your ride. Fun? Get the Si. Refinement? Get the Accord.

I agree both cars are great but if you are only looking at the 4 cylinders then get the civic. What is the price difference between the two? SI's go for 21-22K but I have no idea how much lx accords run.

Also, are you dorming or are you staying where you are already at? I've got a four door and I must say its nice to be able to cram a lot of crap in there when I need to head back home. Just something to think about.

FYI: College students have no respect for anybody else's cars in parking lots. I'd personally be kind of wary about parking a brand new car in a lot. Also (if you are dorming) your car is going to be sitting outside all day and the paint is going to get picked apart by the elements (and retards who don't pay attention to what they are doing). My .02

I agree that your insurance will probably be pretty high for the Si...maybe even the Accord since it's the coupe.

I had 2000 accord v6 sedan before it got wrecked and it was freakin insane car.
So my guess is 2008 accord is a monster, only if it's v6. When it comes to 4 banger accord, SI pwns....

2008 Accord V6 6-speed manual................that thing f**kin rips! I drive em all the time at the dealership. They haul ***.....good torque for a honda too!

I love my car but I would put money on the accord v6 against my turbo!

If you got the money to play with I'd go for the mugen si! I was about 3,000k from getting one. No shock in power delivery but man that thing handles awesome! Alittle pricey for how slow it is but it's fun..

Hey all I agree that the insurance will be high. I am a 19 year old girl and I just bout an '08 Si a month ago. I have never been in an accident or gotten any tickets and I am under my own policy and its about 1,000 dollars over six months...you can do the math. But overall it is by far worth it. I was driving a '96 accord before LOL but for an 18 year old kid...SI all the way, when you get married go for the accord. Have some fun while you can. I swear by i-Vtec and just put in a cold air and it will sound mean like a v6/8!

I agree with you

Si and Mugen have the same engine (same power), same transmission... to me the big difference is the look. I don't think it's worth it to put $5000 more or so just for that, even if it's bad ***, I would not do it...

The real plus with the SI (or Mugen) is the possibility to get a sedan. I wanted to take the 08 SI coupe, but with my wife we want to have kids, so I decided to get the sedan. Unfortunately my wife doesn't drive sticks, so I compromised and got the EX.
No need to get the Accord, get the SI sedan
By the way, I also have an accord EX... even with the 4 cylinder, I have fun. Good luck, pick the right car and enjoy !!!

I just bought a 2008 Accord Coupe LX-S and it's pushing 190hp from a 4 cylinder, which is only 7 hp less than the Civic Si. The sticker price was almost exactly the same as the Civic Si, the insurance is less, and we're only talking about 7hp difference. You can actually fit an adult passenger in the rear seat of the Accord and still have plenty of room front and rear. The LX-S came standard with a 6 disc CD player, front and rear disc brakes, and the bucket seats are extremely comfortable. I don't miss my 7th Gen Civic at all... The 8th Gen Civics are sweet, but the Accord is a lot more car for about the same money, and I got the Accord for about $1600 under sticker price.

You asked this question on a site called civic forums I think some people here might be just a little biased, but thats just me talking. I'd pick the si coupe any day over anything else. I go to school right next to a honda dealership and whenever i go by it I just cant help but stop and stare at an si when i see one. I just think the spoiler on the coupe is just about the coolest sexiest thing ive seen on any car
