Check Engine Light Won't go off
My check engine light has been on (solid) for, like, 8K miles. Dealer keeps telling me that it's just the gas cap not having been screwed on tight, and that the engine is not putting out any codes, but I am getting more and more reluctant to believe this, especially since the "check gas cap" message has long gone. The check engine light remains though. I am at a loss to explain this, and have also noticed that my fuel economy has suffered a bit lately. The only thing that I am doing now that I wasn't doing on a regular basis before is topping off the gas when fueling up. Could that have messed things up? Any feedback is much appreciated. Re: Check Engine Light Won't go off
dummie light for that goes off for emmision related things!
Gas cap not tight and/or seal not correctly seated
Charcoal canister
MAS/MAP sensor air leak and/or dirty
somethin like that, im making a complete Troubleshooting guide right now thats under construction on civicforums. So thatll help out somewhat....

Re: Check Engine Light Won't go off
yeah sounds like it could be the charcoal cannister. weve been getting alot of newer cars coming in lately to my shop with evap codes, and a majority of them have been the cannisters. also the occasional maf/map sensors, or even an egr valve problem..hey for about 8000$ you can get the Snap On Modis scanner to check it out yourself!
Re: Check Engine Light Won't go off
Eight thousand miles and you're still driving the car without really knowing the problem? Get thee to a dealership and have it looked into before something REALLY bad possibly happens.
If you left the cap loose just once, eventually the check engine fault will turn the light off but keep the fault code in memory. Staying on this long indicates you still have an ongoing problem. Get it checked as soon as possible.
