magna flow muffler rattles..help!
Hi. I have a 2001 coupe xs-2 edition.
it came with the magnaflow muffler.
but the muffler starts to rattle so bad...even over small tinny rocks.
so I went to the dealer and have them fixed..
2days later...starts rattles again..and now a month past
it rattles very bad.
is there anything I can try?
cause I don't trust my dealer no more since their service is really poor quality.
(santa monica honda)
is it the rubber hanger? or is there something else to strongly thighten the muffler?
oh btw, I'm real noob on tech stuff so...
help in detail will help me.

Do you know if it is a Cat back System or Custom Pipe back to a muffler,
Look under the car, if it's all bolted together, it's cat back
If it's welded on , its custom bent
customt bent tends to have less rattles, due to less metal on metal, at joints of cat back systems.
The only hard part is to locate the rattle.
Put your car up on Jack stands
(Back onto ramps would be best. )
Have someone step on the gas to create the rattle
While your underneath trying to find it
Once you find it, it's really not rocket science, just bend, prod, poke until all the metal is secured so not to create a rattle.
And remember Don't use anything on it that will melt !!
no Duct Tape !

I have the same magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 93991. Also some of the forum sponsors usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.

Original Poster: The rattling is probably from metal on metal and you'll need to re-bend the piping or try to find a cushioned wrap that is resistant to heat. Good luck I've been trying to find it and no luck... I have a cat-back exhaust and one of the joints on the exhaust hits the heat shield of the under-body sometimes. It's normal but it's seldom for me. If yours is constant try to re-bend the piping.
Re: magna flow muffler rattles..help!
you have some opticians first one is it could be hitting the heat shield which is a easy fix just bend or cut the contact point . or if you have wider piping from down pipe its most likely hitting the sub frame were the pipe bends near the front right tire i have seen people take a hammer to this area to stop the rattling but that would be the last resort . another thing to try would be after markit polyurethane hangers that are stiffer then stock so they should stop the rattling . another thing to do if your not lowerd is to have an exhaust shop weld on longer pieces for the hangers that will actually slightly lower the exhaust.
