Engine Diagnostic Codes
Hey guys. My friend and I were working on his 94 ford probe and he did the same diagnostics a shop would do to pinpoint problems with sensors and such. All he did is took a paper clip and connect his ground pin to pin 10 in a diagnostic type fuse looking box. Then he turned on his car and his check engine light would flash in morse code indicating say an o2 sensor ect. Can we do the same with our 7th gen civic and if so does anyone know the codes? Would just be a good thing to know if we can do it. I tried doing a search and found nothing.
Thanks in advance peeps

But it would be nice to not have to drive there if say you are working on it or need to know right then and there, it would be really convienent to know how to do this. My friend, after we got done working on his car, was having an issue with his idle and it was like 10 at night. He did the technique above and looked up the code and new exactly what was causing the problem. That, to me, would be a lot better and faster than having to take it to autozone or somewhere else to have the same thing done when I could just do it myself. BTW, it's completely safe, so unless you are a really gifted idiot you can't mess anything up. Besides this is how a lot of shops do it from what I was told.

For $50.00 you can get a code reader from this site: www.HarborFreight.com in Camarillo. Ca. Right now it is on sale for $40.00
Diagnostic code reader.
This reader does the following per the web site:
Pin point problems the way factory mechanics do. Easy to use. Simply plug the reader into the vehicle's test connector and your car's on board computer will tell the code reader what ails it. Includes instruction manual. Fits 1996 and new vehicles with generic OBDII connector.
