My friend has an 02 EX with an intake, header, and straight pipes. I have a DX with no engine mods whatsoever, both 5 speed, hes a pretty good driver and i am also one, and I beat him from a roll ,and a dead stop, i think the straight pipes killed him cause he used to be able to beat me before he got them done, mayabe a coincondece but i dont knwo, my .02

thanks for all the replies guys. i was thinking of getting a test pipe but when i went to CMI (a drag race event held in sacramento) every car was running open header, would that be good to run on the tracks for our civics?thanks in advanced.
Open header would be rediculously loud. I have a hi-flo cat, and it definitly opened up the exhaust to flow better. It all depends on what size piping you get. But it will give you gains over keeping your cat, to answer your question....good luck.
you lose alot of low end with a testpipe my 60ft times at the track went from 2.3 to 2.7. my 1/8 mile times stayed the same and my 1/4 times fell about .2 average. blkcivic: where did you get your hi flow cat from?
Our engines and the engine management system are designed around the built-in backpressure from the stock exhaust system. I second the fact that you need a certain amount of backpressure if you want to keep any of the low end power (honda's already are weak in that area). Forced induction would help tremendously with a high-flow exhaust.

Trust me, I have a straight through exhaust and you loose low end. The car lags badly untill over 5,000 rpms. Im thinking about welding a "tourque stuffer" into the collector to get some low end back.
