Does 100lbs = 30hp?

Alright, this is only what i've heard. Suposedly 100lbs is equal to 30 ponies. For example, you take a friend of yours out of your car that weighs 200lbs, you've gained 60 ponies. I have no hard facts to prove or disprove this statement. I've also heard that every 100lbs you take off your car takes 1/10 of a second of your 1/4 mile time. Can anybody give me any info if these two statements are true or not?

As for 1/10 of a second off your 1/4 ET for every 100 lbs, that is just a general rule of thumb. Not exactly accurate, its more of a general guide line.
edit: you think a 30 Hp increase would only net a decrease of .1 seconds in a 1/4 mile ET? Heh.
heres some interesting info for you. unsprung weight (ie weight NOT being supported by the suspension such as rims/tires/rotors) is equal to 1.5x the weight from anywhere else on the car.

Rep Power: 0 Booha - Why didn't you take a minute to think about your question before replying? You can't be THAT stupid? For example- if you added 400lbs to your car (loss of 120hp)+your body weight= a car that can't move. Now, three passengers weigh more than 400 lbs, I'm sure you realize that a civic can still move with three passengers.

Rep Power: 0 isnt unsprung weight(nuts/wheels/rotors/tires)are 3 times the weight?like if you have a 15lbs rim compare to a 20lbs stock rim, the 15lbs is actually 15lbs lighter than the stock rim?

In some cases it is acceptable to run a racing tire without a tube. When a car competes in a heads up class, unsprung weight is an important factor. Tires and tubes are all unsprung weight. One pound of "unsprung" weight is equal to 8 pounds of "sprung" weight. The average tube weighs about 6 pounds. Therefore, if you eliminate the tubes you have eliminated the equivalent of 96 pounds from the car. For every 10 pounds of unsprung weight removed you may pick up as much as .01 seconds in quarter mile ET.
