AF gauge problem...
I new everyone's probably seen this topic a thousand times but... I searched like hell and couldn't come up with an answer...
I install the AF. Its from autometer. I grounded the black lead, wired the red to my cigeratte lighter via a wire tap, then the purple to the white wire on my O2 sensor. To be exact, the purple (signal wire) isn't right near the actual sensor. It is at the top where in can reach it, right near a harness. The guage shows 2 things at once! Well it fluctuates rapidly, first sitting on the border or lean, then the very last night (extremely rich) lights up. After about 2500 rpms, the green light (rich and and to the right) is the only one lit. I know im not running that much. When I idle I know I shouldn't have it jump from lean to rich within fractions of a second consistantly. Did I do something wrong? Or did I buy a POS one that I must switch with a new one. Thanks guys,
Joe

That sounds like it's working... The computer re-adjusts the fuel like 4 or 5 times a second. The computer is programmed to optimize gas usage, so the gauge bouncing around the dial is right. It's doing what its supposed to. You'd have to get the computer re-mapped for it to hold steady at optimal... even then, it will only be optimized at whatever the throttle was at when you tuned it. It should also go pretty lean when you let off the gas since the computer kills the fuel when you totally let off the gas above some given RPM (I think it's 1000).

Thre problem is about 4 or 5 are lit ar once. How accurate can that be? Also, while about 4 or 5 are lit. The green one all the way to the right is basically always on. It turns on and stays on after running my car for about a minute. I don't think they're supposed to be doing that at all.
ok which o2 sensor did you use. if you used the first one then try the second one further back. i don't know i can't see why it would fluctuate like that. seems to me that it would hold and just move back and forth not just bounce around. but i don't have one so i don't know.

How would I go about sending it back? My buddy gave it to me. The guages doesn't go lean-good-rich. It stays lean, unless I gas it at about 2500 then it goes to the very last green. After about 1/2 hour of driving, it stays at green, the very last one only. Nothing else.
