all a blow off valve does is release excess pressure in the intake when the throttle body is closed rapidly during shifts...but the turbo keeps spinning and in order to prevent the compressor from saying "f**k dis" and blowing to hell the BOV releases the pressure into the engine compartment. They usually range in price from $200-300 and i have seen one for as little as $50 for VERY low boost levels. In order to determine if you need one, first off, have you done any turbo mods to your car? EBC? (electronic boost controller), or a new turbo? If so and you are running on stock boost pressure than no you dont need one and in fact your car probably already has one.
