Ok here's whats wrong today i was driving along and all of the sudden the engine started reving like it was in neutral... so i was like WTF... anyways i pulled of the side of the road, and cut the engine off and sat for a second then cranked the car back up and put it in drive and gave it some gas and it started to move so i drove for about a mile, then it happened again, repeated the process and finally got home, my question is am i right by thinking that the transmission is gone, or is there something else that could causing this... and if it is the transmission, where should i get one from, thanx for the help, oh by the way, its a 2001 honda civic LX w/ 56,000 miles on it.

Rep Power: 0 I admit it i have done one or two neutral drops in my day but thats not been for atleast maybe 6 months. Well i guess there was a sign last night as well when i was driving i was going along and tried to speed up but the car wouldn't down shift, no matter what, but towards the end up the night it got better, but i asked a guy that said he has been workin on tranny's for years and he said that it might be the transmission filter getting gunked up because i've never had that changed, do you think thats a possibility???

Rep Power: 0 It might be the tranny, when mine went I tried accelerating and it sort of chocked and then went, then when I came to a stop my car wouldn't go foward really slowly. Btw is you check engine light on?

Rep Power: 286 First thing you should do is take a look at your tranny fluid. It should be reddish and clear and smell unburnt. If its dark reddish/black and smells burnt, it might be time for rebuild or replace. If it looks fine, then perhaps check to make sure its not low on fluid. Follow the instructions from the Owners manual on how to check the fluid level and becareful that you dont over-fill it. Thats about all you can really do except change the fluid anc check the shift cables for being out of adjustment. Unless your knowledgable in tranny diagnosis and repair you shoudl head to the dealer or reputable tranny shop.

Rep Power: 0 most newer imports dont have filters on trannys, they have internal screens, so all you can do is change the fluid unless you are experienced at tranny work then you can take it apart and rebuild it. but hey how many of us can do that
