You want to know how to take the boot apart so you can paint the plastic? Is that what you're asking?
The only way I know is to undo the screw at the back of the opening for the boot underneath, remove the trim ring and undo all the staples holding the boot on. That's the only way I know how to get the boot out of there. There may be a less destructive way of doing it... Maybe try removing the trim ring, pushing the boot down through the opening and out of the way, then masking off the opening
But that trim piece looks different than mine... The shifter trim in mine is square, it doesn't have the rounded end. Are 01's and 02's different?

Are you asking because the new boot trim is a different color than your center console?

Crashoveride is an unknown quantity at this point
I am just curious is that the only way to do it?.
I am thinking that you could pop the trim ring off it and then take the boot and push it to the underside, and somehow mask it off so the boot wont get any paint on it and you should be able to get a good finish on it so that when the boot is in its normal state and you should see no lines or anything as well the outer ring will finish it off.

This is just my though on this by looking at the pics, dont know but hope it helps.

Good Luck man

I am not sure if it just pops off or not, I assumed it was held on with clips or something. Hopefully some of the other guys might know.
