Removing Head
i was just wondering if remo ving the head on a civic dx/lx is that hard? My car is parked for the winter and i wanted to get my head ported out and polished but i have no insurance to drive it down there. Has anybody ever taken there head off and how hard is this ish. Im pretty good at doing minor **** with vehicles but ive never had the chance to take off the head yet

Yeah, then after that you'll have to remove the filter box, the throttle body, the intake manifold, the heat shield, and the header. Then you can un-bolt the head from the block (I think?). I've never done it before, but that's what I'm guessing it's going to take. The bolts that hold down the head to the block are underneath the valve cover (I think?). I'm curious how to do this too, so if anyone knows then speak up!
I have done it a couple of times now actually.
First drain the oil and water out of the motor.
Next remove the plastic cover and coils from the valve cover
Next remove the spark plugs
Next remove the valve cover
Next step is to disconnect the header or manifold (heat sheild if manifold)
Next you would have to diconnect the water pump and hoses
Next disconnect v-tec solinoid (only on ex and si in some countries)
Next you have to dissconnect your intake (stock or not)
Next disconnect throttle linkage
Next disconnect intake manifold (the bottom bolts a little tricky to get to)
Next you have to remove a cover then take the timing belt off
Next you have 10 head bolts to break free
Next you lift the head off
EDIT: I probably left somthing out but it is to early right now. It realy isn't that hard once you do it. I have to do it by myself. My friends frustrate me to much because they dont know what there doing and ask to many questions. If you have any questions just write me. You need new gaskets to. You can not use the old ones. You can use the throttle body and valve cover one again but not any other ones.

Oh yeah, draining coolant and oil and the timing belt has to come off too. Damn, that's a lot of work. I guess if you should stockpile a whole bunch of things to do to your block before getting to work on it. New coolant, new oil, new head gasket, maybe a new cam, new cam gear, pullies. I guess anything you're going to install. Just do it all at once and be done with it.
