MSD techs are of no help to me with this one, maybe one of you guys tried:

Anyone hook one of these up to a 01 civic and how did you do it? I guess there is problems with our DIS system and there being no tach out line

here's some Tach info provided from WireMagic.com
TACH
The TACH WIRE is generally the negative side of the vehicle’s coil(s) or Distributor. This is required for a Remote Start installation when the manufacturer’s unit specifies a connection to the vehicle’s tach wire. It is an AC signal and generally ranges between 2-13 volts during run. The higher the engine speed, the higher the voltage will read. Any short to ground or 12-Volts on this wire will generally cause the vehicle to stop running or, may also cause the vehicle to exert erratic behavior such as " bucking" and intermittent stalling during normal operation.

2001 Honda Civic Tach:
Blue At tach test connector * This plug is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment between the battery and the headlight. Set your remote starter for 4 cylinders

yeah the RPM wire on our cars is the blue wire to the left of the battery with a black rubber boot thing on it, I've used that wire for my alarm with remote start, and also for my o2 simulator. I bet thats what you need!

If you don't want to run a wire through the firewall you can get the same blue wire running into the instrument cluster. Its connector A (the green one) Pin 13.

The wire is there on all models including the DX, even if there is no tach gauge.
