if you want quieter why not just buy a resonator and have it put on. That way you won't have to spend more on a whole new system.
Just a sugestion.

the way the shop did mine, they enlarged the opening of the pipe that connects the muffler to the pipe to the cat to connect the two. plus its 2 separate pipes from the cat to the canister. i'm thinking theres a leak becuase the it sounds a lot different from other exhaust that i've heard. its louder too.
BTW i have a 5zigen muffler

you have 5zigen universal exhaust and have custom piping done? I was considering doing 2.25" piping is it really loud though or is it cuz of the might be leak? Cuz i also have a 5zigen exhaust

stock is 2", but youll actually get 2 benefits, youll regain the torque you lost with the bigger pipe(lost some backpressure), and youll gain a little powerover stock, maybe .3hp, because of better flow from the custom(im assuming madrel bent?) tubing, not that that matters, but since itsll be smoother flowing youll gain a MPG or so.
as for loudness, i doubt itll really quiet it that much, you prolly have a leak, easy way to tell, have the car running(in neutral of course) and go from where the aftermarket exhaust starts, all the way to the tailpipe. run your hand over the pipe, not on it, but sort of "hovering", if there arent holes in the piping, check at the joints, if theres a leak, there will be small pulses coming out, and youll hear it a little too.
hope that helps.

2" is good.. i've got that with a Magnaflow muffler and a glasspack, and it doesn't sound bad at all..... of course, it was waaaaaaay more louder and annoying with just a 2" and Magnaflow. i'm not sure how the 5zigen sounds though...
No car benefits from backpressure. You want your exhaust to flow as much as it can and the 2.25 will help over the 2.00. Put on a free flowing resonator instead. The smaller your pipe diameter, the higher the pitch of your exhaust. I've got 3" on my '69 mustang (500+ hp) and it rumbles way down low...
