Oil Change Question

I'm about to change my oil for the first time and had a quick question I couldn't find using a search. When the owner's manual says to add 3.7 quarts of oil, how does everyone measure the 3.7 quarts of oil? I bought 4 quarts and i'm hesitant about pouring all 4 quarts in because I have heard its bad to have too much oil. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

RedDragon333 will become famous soon enough
pour all of the three and then pour a little of the next Qt in then when you think its enough turn on the car let it run for a few mins then check the oil status and see if you need to add a little more and continue process until your good to go...it shouldnt take more than a few times

There is usually a sight strip on the side of the oil container. Pour in 3 whole quarts. then start pouring in the 4th. Pour in most of it, and start watching the oil line in the clear strip (you have to hold the bottle upright to check) Mobil 1 bottles measure in .250 L increments (see photo). I poured in a little less than 3/4 of the last bottle, and that was just about right.

It's been in the car for 4 days, I don't know any long term comments.... But it is showing up a little cooler on the temp gauge. So I guess it's working. The car does idle a little smoother, but it was smooth to start with, so it's not much improvement. I hope this stuff will be a bit more consistent and last longer than the Honda junk, 10000 mile oil intervals my ***, it went 4300, and it was bad.

5 quarts and you'd probably be spilling oil into places that you don't want it to be. I wouldn't do that.

You would actually be beating your oil into foaming. Foam doesn't lubricate very well because of the high air content and you will end up killing your engine from thermal wear. Don't do it.

4 qts won't really hurt, I put 3.5 in mine and it's fine. It seems to be a little over the mark everytime, maybe just a hair.

Is it just me, or does oil filter = mess. Honda had to put that b!tch on horizontal so you have almost no choice but to spill some. Even on ramps, with the oil filter tilted slightly, I still get some decent spillage. You also have to snake your arm around the suspension so it's tough to get a paper towel ready.

Any tips?

Don't forget to put a little in your filter before you put it back on...
