Unclip the ring on the bottom of the **** by pulling, then turn **** to the left.

but isn't there a problem . .after you add the new shift ****. . when you put the boot back up. . it won't go all the way back up. . i hear you have to tape it and pull the boot up beyond the tape and yeah. . .

Yeah, but I heard a Type R shifter will fit rather nicely, no gap. You should try the Momo component shifter system...the shifter screws right into the shift boot, no gap, no mess...
