OK.... So I'm under the car with a 1/2" Socket and a 17mm hex driver, and the damn thing just won't come loose. It's only supposed to be at 31 ft-lbs, so It shouldn't be this hard to get it off. Lefty loosey, correct? What is the trick I'm missing?

counterclockwise to loosen it. use a metal pipe and insert the wrench/driver in the pipe--like an extension. then turn. u can also use this technik in loosening the nuts on the rims

Yeah my adivce is make sure you're turning the right way - I spent half an hour my first time (a couple moneths ago) only to find out I was twisting it the wrong way. And on top of that, I put so much force onto turning it, that my socket wrench slipped off the bolt and nailed me square in the forehead. I was walking around with a black eye for a week. It really sucked. Anyways, if I recall it's counter-clockwise. But just don't do what I did, and you should be fine.

Peace.

Actually, once I got 2 hands on the socket wrench, I managed to get it loose. That was mostly because I couldn't find a bar or rod properly sized for the task, and I didn't want to bang it with a rubber mallet for fear of cracking the oil pan. All it took was a little muscle...

No, but I just broke the battery tie down bolt. Sheared it clean off. It wasn't even tight either, it just broke. Oh well, thank goodness for tungsten carbide drill bits and self tapping bolts. I'm back in business.

Ha! I have a story... A tech put thread locker on the oil drain plug for some crazy reason and the next time my buddy decided to change the oil. He busted that bolt right off. $hitttty... Took it back to the place and they replaced it for free. Dang - threadlocker!!! WTF
