DIY: CUSTOM Short Shifter

Materials Needed:

1.) Hack Saw

2.) Sharpee Pen

3.) Gonads

Procedure:

1.) Pull down shift boot and twist the shift **** off....

2.) From the top of the shift, measure down about 3 - 5 inches depending on how "short you want it" and mark it with a sharpee...

3.) Place plastic or paper under desired cutting area and start hackin' away...

4.) Replace shift **** on the new shorter shifter....

5.) Clip the shift boot back into place....

Congrats.. now you have a short shifter!!

BTW... i know this is pretty ghetto, but i kinda wanna see someone do this for laughs....

EDITED: because i said something that i shouldn't have...

works absolutely fantastically, cost me $10 at a muffler shop, shifts feel great, and i have much better access to my drink holders. one of the best ergonomic modifications you can do. its not ghetto at all, i can hang my bodyweight off that weld if i wanted to, it wont snap. stock threads, stock *****. its no more foolish than making your own upper grill, installing your own springs, or designing and building your own pedal set.

custom struts for hood and trunk......

tricked out trunk.......

fiberglass stereo subwoofer enclosure.....

custom kickpanels....

nothing more foolish than the other. its actually done quite often. how many cuts do you think are made during teardown of any showcar? care isnt exactly taken to make sure the car can be totally restored to stock.....

how about the V8 converted accord someone posted a link to here some months back? you can bet there were a few more cuts made than just a shift ****....... and noone would have the gall to say that person had an IQ of less than 50.... that takes some design and engineering, right there.......

it does the same job of the revo (from my understanding of what im told in here) exept its cheaper, seeing as there are no materials costs. its all labor, which is of course half the fun of auto modification!

but hey, if you got money to burn, you could always put it in a paper bag and light it on fire, i mean, it achieves the same goal, right?

did you know on other civic forums, people are laughed off the forum for considering putting on rims larger than 16 inches? for using wiper LED's? for running ground effects? even for claiming that a short shifter helps performance?

every forum is different, an dits obvious that this is a forum that laughs at the idea that you can achieve the same goal for $10 what others foolishly paid far more for. you can rise above groupthink, however! Im sure if anyone posted a link to the BOV simulator, many many people would scoff that such a device exists, but people I know who have owned 3 GTO's at once, over a dozen cars, built up 500 hp+ muscle cars love that kind of stuff! the turbo noise simulator (whistle that goes on your exaust pipe) this same friend of mine ran in his bug for s&g for a very long time, people would always ask him about what exaust he was running on his bug, about how nice it sounded!

yet, in the confines of this forum, I see again and again, groupthink takes over again and again, forcing the opinions of impressionable folks to make a decision about what they like or hate with no experience whatsoever, even down to defending their new found opinions to the tooth, with no knowlegde whatsoever.

it cant effect you if you know its there! stop and think about why you are replying to a post with an opinion before you hit send! is it really your opinion? are you saying ot to just agree? to be a part of teh group? to just plain post w h o r e? or are you really trying to start a crusade agasint such "rice" symbols as wiper LED's and equivalence modification?

still think its ugly? i cant defend it anymore than i already have. all i can do at this point is repeat its not ghetto at all, a shortshifter that involves actually shortening the stick (and this has been debated already) is an ergonomic modification, and actually hurts performance (reaction time from steering wheel to shifter)

i still to this day highly reccommend for anyone and everyone to do this, for all teh reasons i have mentioned above.
