Manual tranny question: GL4 or GL5?

I want to change my manual transmission oil and put some valvoline synthetic in it. But there are two similar product exept that one is GL4 and the other GL5. What does it means and WHICH ONE DO I NEED? I've heard that if i put the wrong one in the gearbox it could damage it. So which one do our ride need?

I dunno if it's different for Manuals (I know they're fluid is different) but a mechanic at a dealership told me that for automatics, we should change the transmission oil around every year or so. So I bought 3 quarts and changed it that day. Can't tell if I feel the difference, but I figure it can only help the engine's life.

Changing Tranny oil will rid of all that grinded metal bits from your tranny... therefore extending the tranny life (as someone said) also for the GL4 or GL5 it's not in the manual...? Cause i know for Autos it ATZ F1 fluid which i think is special blend..manual might be special blend too check the manual(as in booklet)
