My 22mm progress rear anti-sway bar is due here next tuesday... I got it off Group buy center for around 175 shipped which seemed like a good deal. Search the archives of the group buy center for a vendor called show 'n go motorsports...

RSX base, and Type S are both 19mm...

Type R gets the 22mm.

i heard the 22mm is too big for our cars?
something like in order for it to work without destroying our stuff we need to put like rear strut bar and tie bar

I'm prolly a dumbass for asking this, but can you put both a rear sway bar and a lower tie bar? Cause I read once that someone was getting rid of their lower tie bar since they were getting a sway bar.

I read once on this forum also that the 22mm bar was too big for our cars and I didnt understand why, if someone could clarify it for me. Also, since the Type S sway bar fits on the EX (which I have), is there a distinction for body style. Like will it fit my sedan too or is it only for coupe peoples?

alrighty people. here's some info to the best of my knowledge.

the 22mm isn't too big for our cars, it'll fit. the deal is, do you want it? the thicker the sway bar, the stiffer the suspension. and well, stiffer generally isn't always better. it depends on your handling preference... when you make the front stiffer than the rear, you get different result in handling... overall, most people want a balanced, neutral handling (ie: when u take a corner, the car doesn't oversteer, or understeer, it just turns) thats one of the key point of suspension tunning, getting the car to handle what you want it to do.

I didn't go for the 22mm because I think thats overkill... and I'll need to get a lower tie bar immediately with it too.

lower rear tie bars are a great compliment to rear sway bars... they stiffen up the lower control arm, and reinforce the subframe. (the subframe/LCA is where the rear sway bar is bolted onto) if the sway bar is too thick or stiff, it may eventually tear up the subframe!! thats why people get tie bars, to reinforce the subframe. and thats another reason why you see a lot of aftermarket rear sway bars with integrated tie bars. (comptech, progress, suspension technique) etc. etc.

the sway bar fits the sedan too, because despite the different platform, they share the same suspension system.

A couple of people has the 22mm.. I think thats overkill... if u take a look at the link above, the % of difference in the stiffness is WOW

another negative aspect of rear sway bars that I know about is that it makes your independent suspension less independent. (sway bars is a form of spring, it connects to the two endlink on each side of the lower control arm... ) getting stiffer ones will definitely affect how the independent suspension works. it stiff enough, the bumps from one wheel may transfer over to the other.

anyhow, thats all I know or can think of right now. I duno how many times I've typed that up though.

I was looking at that chart, but was unable to find some information:

Our stock bar is 12mm = 1.2cm = 0.472 inches appx. (on the chart that is closest to 1/2")
Type S bar = 19mm = 1.9cm = 0.748 inches appx. (on the chart that is closest to 3/4")
Type R bar = 22mm = 2.2cm = 0.866 inches appx. (on the chart that is closest to 7/8")

Unfortunately, the chart does not show the percentage rate between 1/2" and 3/4" or 1/2" and 7/8" so I cant tell how big the difference will be, just assume that it will be really big. Did you read the numbers a different way or is there other information that would help?

Also, if I switch from the 12mm to the 19mm, would I need to stiffen up my front suspension as well to compensate? Thanx again.

yeah its not really there.

but if the difference betweeen 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch is 257%.. what do u think it is for the 3/4 inch? I think someone calculated before.. search for the thread?

as for the front suspension... the front sway bar is big enough... 25.4mm... I dont think u need to do anything to it. but if u want to stiff it up as much as u can.. try the neuspeed front sway bar bushing.
