brake lights dont work

i didn't have a clue where to put this cause it doesnt exactly belong in the wheel/tire/brake or ICE so its here...
and this isn't my car but my friend 99 accord but same difference...

its what the title says, the rear brake lights dont work. the 3rd, middle light does tho. the bulbs arent burnt either cause it turns on when the headlights are on. we even replaced the bulbs. also checked fuses... any other idea?

This is funny... The same thing happened to my dads Explorer. The 3rd light worked but both brake lights went out at the same time. But the tails still lit up. I forget what it was, there was somekind of connector or something in the wiring that needed to be changed, and it blew both brake lights. It was $60 bucks to fix it... that may be your best bet since you may/may not know where the problem lies.

eh... if it was my car i would be tearing things up and eventually rig it to the 3rd brake like but its not my car so... worst thing is his warranty is up and i would hate for him to spend $60 on something that sounds so easy to fix.

Man, that's weird. Obviously it's triggering the switch behind the pedal. Maybe take a wiring diagram and trace the wires and see where they split. There's probably a loose wire after the split.

I think that you may have blown a fuse or something. It may not be the case because one of the lights does work, but you may want to check just incase. They are cheap to replace!

Is your car a auto or manual? If it is a auto and you can still shift, then you did not burn the brakelight fuse cuz if the fuse is blown you will not be able to shift into gear without using the shiftlock. lol I still don't know what is wrong with your car.
