EX exhaust on LX ??? would it work?
Ok, so there are a few headers out there for the EX, but I haven't seen any that are specificly for the LX or DX (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm sure this is because of the cat which is IN the header. Anyways, these are essentially the same engine, the EX header is going to fit on the D17A1 (DX, LX). But then the question of exhaust emissions comes into play. It would be awesome to find out what the difference in emissions is. I have the 2002 manual and I'm gonna take a look at sensors (o2, etc...) Maybe this would work as a swap. Lemme know what you think.
I think I remember THX saying that his european lx has the ex header. If that is the case I don't really see a lot of problems switching out the entire exhaust system (header, cat, b-pipe, muffler). Maybe need to lengthen the wires on the o2 sensors, but not much more than that...
EDIT: Hey check this out. I just ran across it. You could try it... Linkie...

It can be done, just gotta use ALL the EX's stuff, hangers and all. Just lengthen the o2 wires, reset your ECU, and go to town. Of course, you're better off putting on an aftermarket EX exhaust...

dont waste ur money putting a stock EX exhaust on, its ridiculous the price from the dealer, my dealer wanted 1100 for just the cat section not including the headers and the rest of it all

Ya, so I looked up the parts in the 2002 civic manual and you guys are right, it would work to just bolt it in. It does show that the second O2 sensor is in the center of the cat on the EX and at the end of the cat on the LX though. That might cause some ECU havok. I dunno, I'm definitely not going to bolt on the stock EX exhaust, but I was just wondering about an aftermarket EX to put on the LX. Someone is going to need to try this and just see what happens... I can't do this in the near future though ($$$). Thanks for the input.
Bringing one back from the dead for some tech assistance here I have found a thermal exhaust for the EX, I have an LX. Basically all I have to do is use the EX exhaust manifold(which I have one of)and the hangars from an EX?

ok the there are a few different one you can get for the lx. there are the kamikaze,hp racing. and i think there is one or two more.I went with the kamikaze and im very happy with it. the only thing you might wanna do is to get a o2 simulator so you dont set off engine codes. if you want you can go to www.importparts.com and check out the kamikaze header they have it and they have polished and a ceramic one
good luck shopping

I don't want to buy a header, I want to know if I use to the exhaust manifold from an EX and lengthen the oxygen sensor wires, can I then use the EX thermal exhaust I have located?
Not too complicated, is it?

Man, you will benefit tremendously if you change out your lx setup for one like the ex's. You could just buy a catless downpipe off of ebay for around $150 or so....
If it was me, I would have bought the hp header w/high-flow cat (OR the Kam w/downpipe) and a catback system- all for the ex.
I don't know where you got the ex header but I am thinking a buddy with an ex and aftermarket header...
The lx's exhaust system (manifold to muffler) is just terrible..I think you would be very pleased if you switched everything out.
Oh, I know you don't need/want a header but I though I would ramble a little...

I did buy the manifold from a friend, but I don't want to buy the exhaust and then have to invest money in a b-pipe too when I have already bought the manifold and can't get rid of it. Can I have a b-pipe made at an exhaust shop?
to stay legal couldn't you get an ex aftermarket header with downpipe, then get random technology's working high flow cat, then just get an ex aftermarket cat back. Factory cat is like $800 and random tech's is like $200-$300.

They should be able to make you a pipe w/o much of a problem. Only thing is the cat would have to be unwelded and then rewelded into the new pipe. May be some legal issues involved but the shop will be able to tell you what they can and can't do. So, I would just take the car to a muffler shop and let them take a look and offer some advice/suggestions. I am pretty sure someone on the site has already done the custom downpipe but laws vary from state to state.
