DIY CAI??

Hey, I've seen some sites that talk about making a custom CAI system by using a 180 degree mandel bent section of 3" piping. !st off i wanted to see if the AEM & Injen intakes are made of 3" piping & 2nd, does anyone know where i could get 3" piping? I live in Louisiana & i've checked @ Lowes & Home Depot, etc.
Anyone got an answer?

My Injen intake is 2.5" piping... But I should think that with an adapter (3" to 2.5") (the coupling with the throttle body is 2.5") you could use 3" but it may be a squeeze to get it down past the battery.

I read about a person who made a CAI for their B series engine. It may be a little more tricky for our cars as our throttle bodies are vertical. For 3" or 2.5" aluminum or stainless steel piping, try JCWhitney

i know it sounds cheap but a friend of mine doesn't believe it can be done, so it's partially to prove him wrong.

yes, it can be done, but the main problem is, again, our vertical throttle bodies. if you can get a 90 degree adapter that's heat resistant, you're good to go.

A DIY CAI can be done in general fairly easily. My friend did one to his domestic car, but domestic cars have a lot more room in the engine bay. It would probably work out better to just buy one considering the time it would probably take.
