Dude,
If you bought a new like i did. It should just fit over top of the old one. You will have to take the grey clip at the end of the handle off where the button is. Just pop it off with a knife then the new handle will just fit on overtop of the old one.

on my old 93 civic, i had to cut the whole handbrake cover off, and the boot,
but it looked nice afterwards, but be careful not to cut the button or take it off like someone said above....

On our cars, you can't just change the handle. You actually have to take the whole assembly apart...

It sucks. I want the silver from the 2002 on the end of my brake, but the part (whole assembly) runs about 80 dollars from Honda. Not gonna do it for just a small silver piece.

I guess for the kind you are talking about, better get out the sawzall...

IDQcivic should not be trusted
I put on a new e-brake handle, it was kinda a pain to do. I had to cut the old plastic part off, then there was this metal piece I had to use a hack saw to cut off so that the new handle would fit, I also needed a file to file some rough edges. I need to get a new boot so it matches my red shift boot, that'll look tight!
