pic of my trunk release
pic of my trunk release
hey guys, I remember seeing a post way back about trunk releases and I'm not sure how many people have done it, but here's a pic anyways. It is very useful if you open your trunk a lot.

Has anyone else ever locked themselves in their trunk? I mean there's a trunk release in the trunk itself, which is nice, but anyone ever gotten drunk enough to just hop in and close the lid? It's actually kinda fun, and gets a lot of laughs.
Umm, anyways .. yeah make up a DIY and post it, that'd be kind of a cool thing to have ...

just pull the rear seat release and crawl out I did lock my self once in the trunk of my 79 volvo. I was in there working on the 6x9's and a gust of wind shut it on me. My parents had to get me out of it hehehe
if you ever got stuck in your trunk for whatever odd reason, you just pop the back seats or, at least in my '02 sedan, theres an emergency trunk release on the inside lock mechanism. i discovered that the other day.

Just answering some questions...
I got it for around $20 from mcm-electronics, they have a website. I also got a relay, but I'm not sure what a relay does, but my friend said to get it.
I have a clifford alarm. In the instruction manuals for the alarms, there should be a table/pic of which wires should be connected to what. On my alarm brain, it was a purple striped wire, so I just hooked it up and grounded it.

Those emer. seat release helped me once.
Middle of winter, washed my car(stupid me) and left the car outside at work.
I was the last one to get off and my doors were frozen shut. Luckily the trunk would pop. So I crawled in through the trunk and got into the seat.
Thank you Honda.

Here's the link for the lazy. MCM Electronics. Also found AutoLoc while searching around. Does cost a little more though.
Question for you all. Do you think I should get this before getting an aftermarket alarm, or get the alarm then wire this up to it. I'm thinking if I get the trunk release first, they may charge me like $100 to hook up the alarm to the release. I wouldnt mind doing it myself if it isnt too much wiring.

I suggest getting the alarm first, then getting the release. It's a very simple install. Only hard part is finding the correct wire for the trunk release on the alarm brain.
Fern, I don't know about the factory alarm...

hey.. mastercave.. i got mine here, and i'm looking at your pics again.. how you have that thing attached.., just screwed into the trunk lid using that other set of holes (i.e. not the ones w/ hte long bolts that hold the solenoid in? oh, nother thing (as i've looked at your pic and at my trunk), what exactly are you hooking the hook around inside that latch (trying to get as close as possible to how yours is)..since you can't really see that part.. thanks

I did an install like this with a friend on his civic a while back and the only thing we did different was run a constant power wire back to the trunk, inside the left trunk prop-arm, and to a small red "press" style switch which we mounted dead center behind the license plate (we used sticky rubber bushing things on the bottom corners of the plate to space it off enough so that it didn't contact the switch) and we sealed around the switch just in case of moisture. Then we hooked this inline to an electric trunk pop solenoid from a blazer that we mounted basically like that guys pictures so that when the trunk was closed all he had to do was press on the middle of the plate (I.E. holding craploads of groceries in both hands so you use your knee to press the middle) and voila it pops like a champ and nobody else is the wiser. later on he added a de-activate switch to it by the normal trunk pop just in case he'd be leaving the car for a length of time (he only uses it when he knows he's either gonna show off or get something huge from the store, etc. just fyi but you guys without alarms could probably do something similiar to this on your cars using those pictures of where that solenoid is mounted. I'm gonna do it to my car when I get off my lazy *** to do it....hell it took me a month before I got motivated to do the spare tire relocation and floor speaker box install DIY -stackz
