Cutting struts for dopped cars?

I was just wondering....if you lower your car, couldn't you cut the strut so that the piston (skinny shiny part sticking out of shock body) and re-thread the end of it to accomodate for the dropped car. With the shorter strut, the thing wouldn't be compressed as much and would have more room to travel without bottoming out (you might hit your bumpstops, but nothing that wouldn't happen without the cut shocks). If anyone has done this, or has a pair of rear shocks I can try this on, please let me know.

Decamo has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I was thinking the same thing. You'd probably have to rebuild the shock with thicker oil though, so you'd have to have access to tools and equiptment to rebuild that strut.
