serious concerns...

i'm planning on getting my new civic in august, and i had all these plans for some aftermarket work, now i've hearing that all the bolt-ons aren't gonna add that much hp?!?!? say it ain't so. does anyone know what the gains are (or an average) with an intake, exhaust, header, and cam gears? any help would be much appreciated.

ok now stop believing what people "claim" is the truth about boltons. intake adds 1 hp, header 2, exhaust 2. cam gears adjust valve timing on a car, and thus the gains are dependent on what degree you advance/retard the valves.

Do you have any evidence to support your statement? What makes YOUR "claim" about bolt-ons any more truthful than anyone elses?

i think the only good thing about aftermarket exhaust and intake is the looks and sound as for performance u probably wont see the difference i hear people say they feel the difference but in my opinion its sound like u going fast but u aint cause i used to have tanabe racing medalion exhaust and some cheap brand name intake on my old 99' civic it just sounded crazy which is the only good part we still get spanked by a stock si or gsr

has anyone gotten the gude package installed yet? will that work with a turbo? or supercharger (if one ever comes out for our car...)? i thought that each bolt-on was supposed to add anywhere between 3-8 hp? is this not so with our car?

e.g.
intake 3-5
exhaust 4-8
header 3-7
cam gears 4-8

i don't know a whole lot bout this stuff yet, so hopefully you guys understand and help me out here. i'm tryin to learn!

thanx!

In one of my mags (import tuner or one of those) they had an article on a 2001 Civic set up with DC Sports stuff. They had I believe a full exhaust (header to muffler)..intake and something else. Total dyno gains for it were like 12hp... pretty pathetic for the almost $1000 they spent if you ask me.
IMO the 2k1 Civic is made to look good... not go fast (unless you want to do an engine swap or spend serious cash) They are very nice all-around lookin-driving cars...just not that fast.....don't forget this is only an opinion
