clutch pedal travel distance too long

i just put a shortshifter in and then noticed how the clutch grabs then the petal comes out like another 5 inch before it just sits there.[ well feels that way] Now if i put another clutch in will shorten the difernce of this or what? i'm going to look at better today to figure out if theres away to shorten this. but i'm open to any ideas how to go about this.

that distance gets on my nerves too
keep in mind that the clutch engages at the point where the pedal is just about even with the foot rest
