brake light doesnt work
hi all, i got a 2001 civic se, i recently realised my horn was not working. a day after i found out that the brake lights were not working either!!!
i checked the fuse box under the bonnet and found that the 15amp fuse was blown. anyway, i got that replaced but the horn and brake lights still didnt work.
i checked the bulbs and they were fine.
i put in another fuse, and this time i checked the horn first and it worked. but when i pushed the brakes the lights didnt come on. and the fuse blew again.
i really dont know what to do...can anyone help

Re: brake light doesnt work
there is prolly a short in the lamp wiring. and it will be hard to find. check the connections around the tail lamps first and try to trace back the wires. the horn is tied to the same circuit so if the horn works fine after replacing the fuse but the lights blow the fuse, its a problem with the lights.
Re: brake light doesnt work
cheers for the info mate, but the thing is, i dont even know where the wire connection begins. please just let me know where these wire links are and maybe i will be able to find the problem. by the way, i do hear a click when pressing the brakes so i think the switch is ok. thanks.
Re: brake light doesnt work
so where do the wires begin. so i can analyse to find the defective wire. i know the horn works.
the problem is i have never done this before, do you think i should just take it to a garage and how much would it cost?

Re: brake light doesnt work
start at the taillamp socket end and work your way up. chances are the wiring in the front is fine. look for places where the wire may be touching metal, then check the wire itself to see if there is bare wire showing (if the plastic sleeve is cut).
Re: brake light doesnt work
cheers mate, but i probably dont know enough to sort it out myself. i thought it would be simple. i cant even take out the tail light dammit. i managed to have a little look by tearing the carpets but couldnt find any exposed or rubbing wires. i just took it to a garage. the guy is charging me £45-£50. man this sucks.
