tranny swap

My mom has a 2001 civic lx Canadian made non vtec automatic. My shop just got a wrecked 2001 ex vtec. Will the trans swap out or should I just swap engine and trans?

Generally same series engines can use transmissions interchangeably; although they may not have the same gear ratio. But I believe they're both D-series engines, and I'm pretty sure they're d17""s (don't quote me on it). There should be no issue putting the ex tranny in the lx. It's probably the exact same transmission (not 100% but I'd bet on it).
