Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
Hey all
Seeing who has a 01-03 Civic and has taken out either resonator or muffer?
Just wanna hear the results on sound, pros and cons for it
I'm looking for a little bit of a deeper tone and dont have the cash to get a full exhaust kit atm and I want something a bit deeper and louder than stock
Thanks

Re: Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
is it not worth it removing one or another for now? i was plannign to spend more money doing a full suspension setup =(
what is a performance muffler you would suggest, deeper tones and a louder but nothing extreme
also what if i opt for my original plan, would you take out muffler or resonator
thanks!!

You have a few choices, ebay route and some off brand, I would stick with a similar shape to stock say an oval, most will have a tip installed, about 30 or 40 bucks. then take it to a muffler shop about 1/2 hour labor.
Or go branded like magnaflow but more, like 90 bucks or so.
Or for a bolt on, no welding, but prob more than you want to spend.

There are 2 catagories of magnaflow, go to their site, one is louder than the other.
If you go that route, you will need a tip and and install, a tip alone is like 40 bucks, might easier to go the axle back route since it is a bolt on. I would go to a local shop and get some prices.
Like I said there are some cheap stainless mufflers out there too, depends on how much you want to spend.
Re: Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
hmmm ok
trying to research on that, not much luck
got a quote for flowmaster Super 44 - $79 and Super 40 -$84
is that the category i am looking for? I couldn't get any quote on the one you linked me to before...

Re: Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
I say save your money for a catback exhaust. Putting a muffler on it is not going to do anything except make it louder. Being louder doesnt make people think your car is cooler, makes people say there is another ricer lol. Save your money and use it for the right thing.
Re: Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
ha i know its now the proper way to go, but right now im reserving the money for a proper suspension as opposed to just springs
so i have to go cheap on this for now =]

Re: Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
I have a 2005 civic that still has the stock muffler system. while I was doing the transmission I had the exhaust out. the rear exhaust seal is wreaked so while I was waiting for the new one to come I have been driving it with just the resonator. it sounds pretty sweet around town and idling but i would not recommend it because it drones badly on the highway.
and also. it is not possible to just remove the resonator and keep the stock muffler without making or having a custom connector pipe made.
you might want to try looking for a used or salvaged performance exhaust or if you can't find one then a cat back stainless magnaflow is only like $550 (can)

I have a 2002 lx sedan, and I put on a Flowmaster 60 axle-back exhaust I got from autoanything.com, it's only for the 01-02 civic. Bolted right up, and was $230 with free shipping. No modifications required, and it sounds amazing. I get comments all the time about how no one has heard a civic that sounds like it, it actually sounds deep, not too loud, and no weed-whacker sound. Couldn't be happier with it, especially since the muffler itself looks normal, and it has a nice chrome tip.

Re: Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
If you want a deep sounding exhaust that is not loud and sounds good then the Apexi Noir or the Apexi WS2 is for you. They are basically the same thing, the noir was made before the ws2 but almost the same design. They look like a stock muffler and they are not to loud and they give decent gains. The noir is flat black and the ws2 is chrome. They are both around the range of 400 to 500.
I have the noir on my ep3 cause I was wanting a quite exhaust that doesnt look like a fart can and will not draw attraction from the big 5-0. It works out pretty good for me.

Re: Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
removing the resonator will have the opposite effect your looking for the resonator gets rid of high pitch rasp. also you want a oval style muffler with densely packed material something like a vibrant street power coupled with a vibrant ultra quite resonator will sound nice.
Re: Muffler / Resonator Experiences!
Even if you leave the resonator you will still get good sound with the new muffler. You do not want to take it off, most likely too loud or too much drone inside the car.

I would rather have a stock one - no need to call for attention...
