Honda D17
HELLO MEMBERS
I have swapped a d17a vtec engine on my 05 civic which previously had a d15y3 ....
MOds on my car :
1. Act Clutch n flywheel street performance
2. Under Drive Pullry
3. Greddy Evo 2 Exhaust
4. polyutherine Bushings
5. Intake short Ram
The problem :
The D17A engine was working just fine when initially installed but my Vtec was activated by installing a external RPM with a adjustment **** to kick in the vtec......at a desired RPM ..... THE lowest where it use to kick in even if i had put the adjustment to 2000 it always use to kick in at 3800-3900, and u could feel the boost. But before this vtec engagement the profile change was felt at 2500-3000 12/16v.
Here is the problem i cant feel the profile change anymore though the Vtec is kicking in at the same RPM. There is also a issue with the mechanics here they dunt seem to know that much about these vtec operations. I just want help if there is a way to check this profile change from 12 valve to 16 valve and how to diagnose the problem......
The only thing my mechanics worry about is the Vtec engagement but i feel the power loss initially when it launches and profile doesnt change though its not much but it lightens the cars response a bit.
Lastly i am not running the original d17A Ecu due to non availability thats why External Rpm was installed to engage Vtec ......
This issue is bit complicated any suggestions guys ..... thanks

Ok where are you at that you got an 05 civic with a D15 motor in it?
second What ECU are you using at the moment?
and last if your not running the correct ECU and not using a VAFC how are you getting the correct fuel mixture in Vtec?

Re: Honda D17
but yes, the vtec in the d17 is VTEC-E, used for low RPM efficiency purposes..

Re: Honda D17
Im From pakistan and and i had a 1.5 non Vtec engine which i swapped with my D17A Vtec and currently my Genious Electrician has some how managed to turn on my vtec on my same ECU of my D15Y3 !! but with the external RPM with adjustment and i have done two autocrosses on it ending up with poduim positiions................but my car was revving on 6000 thats the reason we tried to play with the ECU more to increase the Rev limit and sadly it didnt work out so got the ECU back to where it was and now i have a problem .... i think my profile change 12v>16v is not working i cant feel it anymore sooo thats why i researched a bit online and this was the only valid forum i could get through.....
Mechanic says its working fine but point to be noted that all the technicians are new to this motor and what i could feel b4 that profile change 12v>16v i cant feel it soo need some help on that ......
and one more thing to add up here i did get a ECU with the engine but it was Locked due to some Imbolizer issue ...... can i get an ECU in the U.S if thats possible i might get it shipped to my cousin they can fed ex it to me in pakistan and how much would it cost ......

Re: Honda D17
If you feel the VTEC kick in at 2000 RPMS, your a special person. Because, let me tell you... I can't feel it, and these cars rev so damn high I hardly ever go below 2000 rpms.

Re: Honda D17
vtec only engages on the d17 when the gas pedal is floored (100% throttle), engine temp is warm, oil pressure is high enough, and rpm is above 4700. it is for racing purposes only, not daily driving. and all of this is controled by the ecu and vtec solenoid. usually forcing vtec to engage at lower rpm or when these conditions are not met will result in engine damage, which im betting is what happened to you.

^lol u took ur stock-height vtack civic to the dragstrip?
just curious? whY? to find out it takes 20sec to get to 60? i mean its so slow u can pretty safely do that on the streets...lol

Re: Honda D17
I think it's autoX, and if you have a lowered car you fit into the modified group which is much harder than the stock. Hence why it's stock height. (All assumptions)

still riding high.. compare the fenderwell space on top of the tire (12:00 position) compared to the sides (3 and 9:00 position)

hey
its high for sure its on stock height ..... and this is car used by me on an autocross circuit in pakistan ..www.xtrememotorsports.com.pk and it had the fastest time of the day in the last event ..... about your opinion on lowering actually i lowerd my car in the 1st Round and it didnt handle that well soo .... i changed my tyres and put on Kumho Ecsta V710 Racing Slicks and got my height back to OEM and I liked the way it handled.......If u are an autocrosser then ur advice can actually help in a bit but if ure a dragster or a street racer then i have one thing to say " Lowering helps you more in a circuit racing but it dosent help u that much on an autocross circuit it depends on what speed u reach on a autocross track....."
Try visiting the website and see what kinda cars are thier in pakistan check out the racing scene cant compare it to the US and other countries
......
A friend has actuallly solved my problem and has recommended a ECU from the US and its from a honda Civic EX (US VERSION) that is sopposed to be the same spec engine i have here soo lets see when i put that ECU on does it help
Thanks guys
