2005 Civic Passenger Door Lock Problems

Thanks for taking the time to help me. My girl has a 2005 civic and the passenger door won't lock with the key from outside. i was wondering what part i need to replace. is it the C-clip?

Also the driver side door doesn't lock unless you are pulling on the door handle. She says that is how it come but that seems odd to me. is that normal? if not what do i need to do to correct that?

Thanks in advance.

these cars do have alot of weird door issues. sometimes just spraying the locking mechanisms with silicone grease on the inside will help. other times you need to replace the actual lock but its more of a pain since then the key would need to be changed also.

Re: 2005 Civic Passenger Door Lock Problems

a part of ur actuator assembly is broken or the tab is broken in there.

i would take it apart, take a look at it to see if there is anything broken or maybe the rod fell off the assembly.

My '05 Civic only locks on the driver side from the outside with the key or by pushing the lock down from the inside when the door is shut. Unlike the passenger side that you can place the lock down with the door open or closed. I assume this is some measure to make sure you don't lock the door from the outside while it's running.

I've never had any issue with having to hold the handle open while locking it. That does sound fishy.

Re: 2005 Civic Passenger Door Lock Problems

It's a safety measure so you won't lock your keys in the car. You can't lock the drivers door, while open, from the inside without first pulling the handle then pushing the lock down. It's either that or lock it from the outside. I've had a honda since '91 and have done this one handed so many times it's become second nature. lol
