Engine trouble!! Need help!
Hey there folks, I'm new to the forum! Just wanted to say hey!! Ok, I have a problen with my civic engine!! The problem is the belts, the altnernator, a/c compresser and the main belt, the crank pulley belt. They have come off along with the crank pulley itself! The crankpulley was apparently loose. and over a course of 3 months it loosen even more. ( I had my belts replaced in the summertime last year) well anyways the crank pulley is now off and the bolt was the only thing keeping it there. It loosen the belts which forced them to come off. I took it to a auto shop, they did an engine diganotic and told me that the crank pulley did some damage to the crank shaft and that the it was no point in repairing the damage inside because of what was damaged. They told me that I would need a whole new engine!! I wasnt sure to believe them so I took it to another auto shop and they told me something totally different and wanted to charge me about $5,000 just to rebuild the engine and about another $2500 for labor!! I'm unsure as to what to do now, I love my car and dont want to sell it and really dont want to pay an arm, leg and first born son to fix it!! I just need some help as to what the problem could be, or if there could be a reliable shop that someone could refer me to!
Thanks

Re: Engine trouble!! Need help!
yeah that engine is toasted. its cheaper to just get a used engine on ebay or junkyard for around $600, pay someone $1000-1500 to drop it in, and be on your way. assuming you have the d17 in 01-05 civic, those are dirt cheap and readily available.
