My baby wont start=( 97 civic EX HELLLP PLZ
So, my car has been down for a few months now and i think the guy workin on it has no idea what the he** he is doin. ok car trouble:::
it will crank and sounds really healthy but it will not start up completely.
what we have done:
*changed the water punp
*switched out the distributor but that wasnt the problem so now i have an extra one
*ran a diagnostics test on it to see if it may have been the crank angle sensor but sure enough it wasnt that.
*the motor is pumpin fuel but could the fuel pump still need to be replaced?
*and all the fuses and plugs are brand new in the car so none of them are shot.
i jus need the help from sumone who knows what the heck they are looking at here.......plz

Re: My baby wont start=( 97 civic EX HELLLP PLZ
when you changed the distributor, did you set the ignition timing? did you check the fuel pressure? if the engine is cranking, the starter is prolly fine. did you set the cam timing properly when the water pump was replaced (assuming the timing belt came off). if cam timing is off, its very hard to start the car. even a small timing problem will cause problems.

Seriously. And if I were the original poster, I would put back my original distributor and sell the new one on ebay. I still don't understand why the waterpump would be on the list of things that might me causing the engine not to stay on. Seized waterpump? So unlikely.

Are your plug wires in the proper spots on the distributor?
Spark plugs, plug wires, rotor, distributor cap, distributor and proper timing (I imagine all 3 of these are new since you bought a new distributor)
Are your battery connections corroded, damaged, or loose? Just check to make sure you are getting sufficient power.
Is fuel reaching injectors? Clogged fuel filter or injectors? Other fuel related problem.
Leak between throttle body and intake manifold?
Ignition switch? http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/start...ignitionswitch
Study this page and you should find your anwer: http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/start...ignitionswitch

Do what cleft said, and start with a tuneup... spark plugs, air filter all that **** and see if it helps... always start easy not difficult... i don't understand how you jumped to water pump and distributor... unless you have already done the simple stuff??

Re: My baby wont start=( 97 civic EX HELLLP PLZ
so im a girl lol and like i said in a previous post i know a lil not alot about these things lol i am mainly a volkswagon gurl lol sad as this sounds. the distributor was replaced and i sold the other one that i had bought is up for sell....$50.00.
idk why i was thinkin water pump, maybe it was because whenever the car broke down it overheated first but i shut it off and coasted to the side of the road when i seen the temp gage shoot up like that.
i will send the previous list of suggestions to the guy and see whats up...
i suggested timing check as soon as he got it and he said it was fine...idk but this bein with out a vehicle thing is really startin to suck=(
Thank you for all ur suggestions=)
if i cant fix it i think ill jus sell it or trade to someone with really deep pockets cuz this car has nearly killed me.......who wants it lol........

Re: My baby wont start=( 97 civic EX HELLLP PLZ
i may have missed this somewhere but why was the car in the shop in the first place? check the plugs. My car is hard to crank sometimes because the timing is off from having the head shaved. This in turn set off the timing when the cams were at tdc and makes the plugs run too hot or fouls them out from running too rich. give new plugs a try 5-6 for vpowers
Re: My baby wont start=( 97 civic EX HELLLP PLZ
Is your car holding coolant or is there a leak? Yeah check the head for leaks. Also, get some carb cleaner and spray some on the throttle body and try to start the car. Maybe the TB is extremely dirty?
